Goodguys

When you hear or say the name Goodguys, chances are (provided you have any interest in cars) everyone knows about it. One of the largest nationally touring annual events in the United States. Officially named Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, and established in 1983 by Gary Meadors, he expanded to create the national touring series of hot rods and custom car events in 1987.

hot rod:

noun-

a motor vehicle that has been specially modified to give it extra power and speed.

verb-

modify (a vehicle or other device) to make it faster or more powerful.

Here in Washington state, it’s a 3 day extravaganza held every July, always kicking off with the Friday Night Vintage drag races at Pacific Raceways. Then, both Saturday and Sunday are hosted by the Washington State Fairgrounds. Many years of attending has etched the variety of customization into my mind, proving the sky really is the limit. It’s now a tradition that draws upwards of 100,000 auto enthusiasts to feast eyes on over 2500 hot rods, customs, muscle cars, trucks, and classics. The largest automobile event to our area, happening for over 30 years.

A lot can happen in 3 days, and this event proves that in every way. It’s like a SEMA show with so much more! Some of my favorite highlights include: live bands & entertainment, Nitro Thunderfest vintage dragster exhibition, burnout competition, swap meet, Pinstripers Brush Bash, vendor exhibits, model car show, and the Free Kids Zone. With so much diversity available at once, there’s literally something for everyone, and for all ages. It’s almost impossible to see everything there is to offer in just one day. While not cheap, and parking can be a royal pain, take into consideration the once-a-year opportunity to get involved with so many other like minded people. Who knows, you might even come home with a new ride!

I am honored to have received media credentials to such a largely inspirational culmination of automotive excellence. Being able to showcase the importance and variety of such a historic and impactful car club is what I live for. Thousands of photos are taken, and dozens of stories written about this iconic trend-setting culture, all started by one individual with a lifelong love for hot rods. These are mine, and I share them with the world in hopes to inspire both current and future generations to come.

Known as the worlds largest hot rodding association with over 70,000 active members, the Goodguys set the bar high for car show standards and participation. If you have attended any of their events, you know what I am referring to. If you haven’t, well, you’ve been missing out! I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s definitely bucket-list worthy.
